Bob Shaw, MSW, LMSW
Bob Shaw, MSW, LMSW, has earned his BA in Hospitality Business and his MA in Clinical Social Work, both from MSU. He has visited West Africa three times for work and education-related activities and provides refugee counseling and diagnosis. He is a certified Sandtray Worldplay practitioner with 12 years of training. Bob is also an active committee member of the National Association of Social Workers/Michigan Chapter and has been a partner in Diversity Psychological Services since its opening in 2008.
Bob works extensively in areas related to trauma, anxiety, depression and loss using a multi-disciplinary approach based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), play therapies and sail therapy. His primary areas of clinical practice include teens and adults; issues relating to divorce, separation, parenting time, and recovery; family reintegration; and clinical parenting time supervision. His methodologies address multi-cultural as well as GLBT issues. Bob offers an approach that is client centered, with a focus on self-determination and cultural competency that values interactive communication while extending an open and accepting positive regard for every client. He utilizes Therapy Dogs, certified through Therapy Dogs International (TDI), when appropriate.
